{"id":6,"date":"2021-07-23T20:45:34","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T20:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/159.203.29.124\/oystercatchergirl.ca\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2025-11-02T23:20:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T23:20:29","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oystercatchergirl.ca\/?page_id=6","title":{"rendered":"Artist&#8217;s Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anne Hansen<\/strong>, of Victoria, BC \u2014 known as the <strong>Oystercatchergirl <\/strong>\u2014 has been struggling to keep pace with worldwide demand for oystercatcher art since 2007.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oystercatchergirl.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/6ADF90F7-8626-42ED-BA56-A0DE87E73A4A_1_201_a-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-399\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Anne first moved to Victoria she was immediately taken with the black oystercatcher, and proceeded to paint dozens of artworks on that theme.  She was a regular feature in the James Bay Art Walk and the Oak Bay Studio Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the summer of 2021, in the wake of the BC government&#8217;s destruction of the province&#8217;s ancient forests, she has embarked on an &#8220;Emily Carr&#8221; series of paintings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Many people&#8217;s first introduction to BC is through the haunting forest paintings of Emily Carr.  I am convinced that if she we alive today, she would be protesting the destruction of the forests with the rest of us,&#8221; says Anne.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anne grew up in southern Ontario, in a birding and outdoorsy family.
