Anne Hansen<\/strong>, of Victoria, BC \u2014 known as the Oystercatchergirl <\/strong>\u2014 has been struggling to keep pace with worldwide demand for oystercatcher art since 2007. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Anne first moved to Victoria she was immediately taken with the black oystercatcher, and proceeded to paint dozens of artworks on that theme. She was a regular feature in the James Bay Art Walk and the Oak Bay Studio Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2021, in the wake of the BC government’s destruction of the province’s ancient forests, she has embarked on an “Emily Carr” series of paintings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Many people’s first introduction to BC is through the haunting forest paintings of Emily Carr. I am convinced that if she we alive today, she would be protesting the destruction of the forests with the rest of us,” says Anne. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anne grew up in southern Ontario, in a birding and outdoorsy family. She was an administrative assistant at the University of Toronto for 25 years, and was known for her urban bike activism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
